Highlighted ArtistKäthe Kollwitz: (July 1867 – 22 April 1945) was a German artist, who worked with painting, printmaking (including etching, lithography and woodcuts) and sculpture. Her most famous art cycles, including The Weavers and The Peasant War, depict the effects of poverty, hunger, and war on the working class.[1][2] Despite the realism of her early works, her art is now more closely associated with Expressionism.[3] Kollwitz was the first woman elected to the Prussian Academy of Arts. Wikipedia Artists Tom Huck, Bill Fick, and Sean Starwars bring modern humor to the woodcut. Please note that Tom Huck's work on his website contains nudity and violence that may be offensive to some. This is my senior show poster from East Carolina University. Typically students are required to create their own publicity and solo or two person exhibition to receive an Art degree. The drawing was done in pen and ink and then made into a metal plate that would be able to be inked and ran through a letter press. Professor Craig Malmrose, from East Carolina University, is the founder and owner of the Trade Union Press, a private press facility devoted to the preservation and practice of historical typographic methodology and fine printing. Professor Malmrose graciously printed the posters. The necklace the figure is wearing is a drawing of the jewelry designer Vicky Fanberg that was in the exhibition. Student Work
This is an example of the collage project. The original collage was made out of old fabric, cardboard, a rusty bolt and magazine photos. It was much smaller than the drawing. I drew the collage as realistically as I could but altered the collage with acrylic glaze to make the image appear aged. Check out Artist Wangechi Mutu. Prepare to have your mind BLOWN!
Consider negative space when you make your collage. How can you create a surrealist composition by altering your found imagery? Remember the way to success is by connecting forms, line and colors. Student Work |
