Students are to create a series of 5 surrealist collages. One a day based on the following themes, SCALE, LANDSCAPE, PATTERN, PORTRAIT, AND FREE CHOICE.
Students will create an original image. They MUST draw from resources on the computer. Once the image is approved they are to build a relief painting using cardboard. Please click on the South Central High School link for more examples. Examples are from the web and https://schsart.weebly.com/cardboard-relief.html
Students will experience the process of a graphic designer by making multiple thumbnail sketches and collaborating with the client (teacher) to create a sample deck of cards in an original design.
DHC student work.
Students build and design a 3 dimensional letter. Pattern, texture, and form are discussed.
STUDENT WORKSteps 1. After the presentation students are to choose an architect or style of architecture to reference. 2. Write a one page research paper on the architect or architercural style. 3. Sketch the design and develop the structure of the building. How many pieces of cardboard will you need? Where will the angles connect? Think like an architect and consider structure. 4. You will be given a limited amount of cardboard so must plan to scale down. 5. Cut the pieces with scissors, xacto knives may be used with supervision. Assemble the structure with masking tape and in some cases hot glue. 6. Paper mache building and paint. A maquette (French word for scale model, sometimes referred to by the Italian names plastico or modello) is a small scale model or rough draft of an unfinished sculpture. An equivalent term is bozzetto, from the Italian word that means "sketch".
It is used to visualize and test shapes and ideas without incurring the cost and effort of producing a full-scale product. It is the analogue of the painter's cartoon, modello, oil sketch or drawn sketch. For commissioned sculptures, especially monumental public sculptures, a maquette may be used to show the client how the finished work will fit in the proposed site. The term may also refer to a prototype for a video game, film, or any other type of media. Modello, unlike the other terms, is also used for sketches for two-dimensional works such as paintings. Like oil sketches, these works in progress can be at least as sought as completed works by highly regarded artists, showing the process of developing an idea. Gian Lorenzo Bernini, a sculptor from the Baroque period, made his bozzetti from wax or baked terracotta to show his patrons how the final piece was intended to look. Eleven of these bozzetti were displayed in an exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago in 2004.[1] Some museums specialize in collections of maquettes, such as the Museo dei Bozzetti in Pietrasanta, Italy. Wikipedia Students are to fill their traced silhouette with at least 10 different designs that represent their personality. Consider hobbies, movies, foods, books, spiritual beliefs etc. Begin to consider how to apply the Elements of Art and Principles of Design. Pattern, variety and negative space are key for making a successful image in this project. Fill the head completely for a passing grade.
